Facebook dumbing friendships down? and Using social media to influence online brand visibility
The social life for people have changed during the years. Facebook have different functions that let us constantly update our status of what we’re doing at that very moment, so the rest of your social network can see it.
Facebook is also an area where big companies and brands interact with their consumers. I find this thing good and believes that the possibility to get feedback on company products increases. By showing your company on a community where most of the worlds population interact you’ll get good marketing for free. It’s a part of their marketing plan.
No one can force you to always stay in touch, but if you dont have Facebook you unfortunately are dont have the same social abilities as your friends. The width and development of the community is big and established into todays society.
The level of tolerance when it comes to adding social contacts to your Facebook-account is very controversial in many meanings. Where shall the line be drawn? Is it okay to add people you’ve only met once, and then share your innerly thoughts with them? It is up to everyone individualy, but it’s been a more common phenomenon than before. Many people usually have 200-300 “friends” on Facebook. A bit exaggereting, I believe.
I can see the fun part in having many contacts, when it comes to people you haven’t met in a long time and want’s to reconnect with. But if you never write to them anyway, why bother having them?
I once heard a strange quote. Two classmates were seeing each other on a Monday-morning and the first one asked an common question; “how was your weekend?”. The other persons reply surprised me. She said: “Just check my Facebook. I dont have the energy to explain it all again…” That is WRONG! The line has been brutally crossed and you truly dumbing your friendship down. Down to the bottom. Without the real social interaction in our daily life we lose a big part of the communication we need. After all we are social beeings that need face-to-face meetings, and can’t rely on just a few lines on a computer-screen and think that’s enough.
I might take big turns on this subject, but I think that social communities on the Internet today can be bad if they’re used wrong.

I don’t think of social networks as a primary tool for companies to make contact with customers. It’s sad, but many employers have had the bad taste to block different sites for their employees. If we think the company can increase on behalf of existing on sites like facebook, twitter, myspace and so on, one fundamental part is of course the employed can use the sites even on their work, with the possibility to interact with the audience.

“..Two classmates were seeing each other on a Monday-morning and the first one asked an common question; “how was your weekend?”. The other persons reply surprised me. She said: “Just check my Facebook. I dont have the energy to explain it all again…”..” This is truly the danger with social media, things like this really makes me worried, because I think that answers like this only gets more common each day. We are walking towards a world sitting and communicate and work throw our computers only..

hahaha what!I agree with the previous speaker, Emma! This sounds really strange! Where are we going with our use of social media? Are we going to stop talking to each other when we feel it’s not necessary? Good article Niclas! :)
