File sharing. One of the most used word during the previous ten years. Since the development of Internet it has been possible to download material from all over the world, with no such limits. It sounds great, but of course there are moral dilemmas – the creator of the material should have some kind of compensation for the use of his or hers work. If people use it for free without paying they lose a big income of salary.
Thats why there is laws, like copyright, that forbid us to take whatever we want from the net.
Thankfully all file sharers don’t think the same. Many people think that if they get the chance to TRY the product for free, they might like it and buy it for later. You can’t expect everyone to think like that, but if you really are a fan of some kind of music or a film you might want to collect the samples for real.
The amount of people downloading files today is huge. That means it’s hard to frame persons individually for breaking against the copyright laws. If the police catch one illeagel file sharer he is just one of thousands doing it, and it would be really unfair in many means. I sometimes get the feeling that the police thinks it’s useless to chase downloaders, and I can understand them.
I think that copyright is an out-dying law. When Internet came into the picture and gave access to all kind of digital material it was also the beginning of the end for a world with a finansial consumable entertainment industry.
There are products like Spotify, that tries to find legal options that wont threat the laws. They stream music so the users can listen to it but not owning it. I think that’s the only hope copyright have left.
The main idea of copyright is good. It’s intentions are noble. But like many other laws it gets obsolated and doesn’t catch up with the modern worlds new values and directives. If they want to reclaim the privileges of copyright they will have to forbid Internet. And that would be impossible.
Facebook dumbing friendships down? and Using social media to influence online brand visibility
The social life for people have changed during the years. Facebook have different functions that let us constantly update our status of what we’re doing at that very moment, so the rest of your social network can see it.
Facebook is also an area where big companies and brands interact with their consumers. I find this thing good and believes that the possibility to get feedback on company products increases. By showing your company on a community where most of the worlds population interact you’ll get good marketing for free. It’s a part of their marketing plan.
No one can force you to always stay in touch, but if you dont have Facebook you unfortunately are dont have the same social abilities as your friends. The width and development of the community is big and established into todays society.
The level of tolerance when it comes to adding social contacts to your Facebook-account is very controversial in many meanings. Where shall the line be drawn? Is it okay to add people you’ve only met once, and then share your innerly thoughts with them? It is up to everyone individualy, but it’s been a more common phenomenon than before. Many people usually have 200-300 “friends” on Facebook. A bit exaggereting, I believe.
I can see the fun part in having many contacts, when it comes to people you haven’t met in a long time and want’s to reconnect with. But if you never write to them anyway, why bother having them?
I once heard a strange quote. Two classmates were seeing each other on a Monday-morning and the first one asked an common question; “how was your weekend?”. The other persons reply surprised me. She said: “Just check my Facebook. I dont have the energy to explain it all again…” That is WRONG! The line has been brutally crossed and you truly dumbing your friendship down. Down to the bottom. Without the real social interaction in our daily life we lose a big part of the communication we need. After all we are social beeings that need face-to-face meetings, and can’t rely on just a few lines on a computer-screen and think that’s enough.
I might take big turns on this subject, but I think that social communities on the Internet today can be bad if they’re used wrong.
Gosh. My laptop crashed yesterday. Every file saved on the computer for about a year is erased…
Remember to always make a backup for your important stuff. I’ve learned my lesson now.
Triumph of the Nerds (1996)is an quite interesting film with some deep analyzes on how our times greatest technological invention, the computer, has developed into our society.
The computer has gone from being just a hobby for “nerds” to become a global necessity in the life of people all around the world. I found the fact that the whole process went so fast very interesting.
We have two persons; Bill Gates and Paul Allen to thank for all those practial divices that makes our everyday things so much more easy. They are interviewed and praised in the film for their contribution.
It’s fascinating to compare the technology today with the one just 15 years earlier. Huge steps has been taken since then. Every tech. tool has been smaller, but fits so much more information.
There is no end of the possibilites of what you can do, and the technical area will grow for many more years. Entrepreneurs (or “nerds” if you like) will keep on letting their creativity flow and hopefully see the potential in their products, just to make our lives so much better.
